Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior- Film Review
Movie Name: Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior
Cast: Ajay Devgan, Kajol, Saif Ali Khan, Sharad Kelkar, Luke Kenny, Kajol, Padmavati Rao
Director: Om Raut
Genre: Biographical Period Drama (historical)
Value Judgement: Very Good

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is the story of life and valour of legendary Maratha warrior, Tanhaji Malusare. It is based on the famous Battle of Kondhana( Feb 4, 1670 surgical strike at night) the battle was fought between Tanhaji, a commander of Maratha Empire and Udaybhan Rathore military officer of Aurangzeb.
If you go to the theatre to watch a movie that will take you to the 17th century. We know the story well. To save people Chh. Shivaji Maharaj(Sharad Kelkar) surrenders 23 forts including Kondhana (Sinhgad) to Aurangzeb (Luke Kenny) under the treaty of Purandar. The Kondhana has strategic importance so Aurangzeb sends Udaybhan (Saif Ali Khan) as a fort keeper with a huge army and massive cannon called ‘Naagin’ to ensure that Chh. Shivajiraje cannot recapture it. When Tanhaji Malusare comes to know the plan of campaign, he implores Chh. Shivaji Maharaj to give him an opportunity to win Kondhana. The movie is Tanhaji’s journey to reclaim Kondhana.
Ajay Devgan performs the role of Tanhaji with all his potential. Saif Ali Khan shows his best ever performance in this movie. Here, he is a villain. Sharad Kelkar’s voice, style and build suit the role of Chh. Shivaji Maharaj. Padmavati Rao has also the required gravities for the role of Rajmata Jijau.
I enjoyed watching this film as it unfolds a story from the pages o history that deserves to be told. Om Raut shows a flair for storytelling. Dialogues are simple and directly touch our heart. There is generous use of 3D, VFX and CGI technology. The background music adds the intensity to the true spirit of the film. The movie is full of actions- lots of sword fighting, killing, slicing, dicing and showers of arrows. It is a great visual treat.
I would recommend this film to others to go to the theatre and watch because of superior performances of the cast, powerful and bountiful action and great visual impact. The most important thing is it is a tribute to braveheart Maratha warrior Tanhaji Malusare.
We learn how to keep patriotic passion high at all times from this biographical movie.
We must salute to his indomitable spirit.
